How will you sparkle in 2014?

Top Engagement Ring Trends at Michael C. Fina for 2014

Will 2014 be your year to get engaged?  We’re sure you’ve been diligently searching our website and Pinterest boards to find your “perfect” engagement ring, so we’ve decided to do some work for you.  We’ve predicted six engagement ring trends that are sure to be hot in 2014.  Find your favorite, take notes, and start dropping hints!

1. Art Deco – Aren’t you “jazzed” about this trend?  Vintage styles have been popular for years, but Art Deco styles will be extremely popular in 2014.  The strong lines and intricate details bring you back to another era.  This vintage appeal shows no signs of slowing down!  If you love the look, check out this stunning platinum Tacori engagement ring fit for a princess!

2. Floral – Add a touch of romance with florals and blooms on your engagement ring.  Inspired by nature, some of these rings will have an organic feel to them as well.  Many women will love the ultra-feminine style of floral engagement rings.  This platinum “Juliet” ring by Penny Preville showcases a bold leaf design and is inspired by the most famous love story of all time!

3. Yellow Gold – Yellow gold is making a comeback!  2013 was all about rose gold and 2014 will be all about yellow.  Pure gold is yellow in color and some women love this natural, warmer look.  Another thing about yellow gold that many women might like?  The sentimental feel of it.  Many women who got engaged and married in the 1980s sported yellow gold rings, so women today might want to match their mothers!  Want a yellow gold ring with a ton of sparkle?  Check out this 3-sided pave engagement ring from Michael B.’s Princess Collection.

4. Twisted Bands - Some women love a classic style, but want a little bit of a unique, modern update to their ring.  The streamlined, sensual design of a twisted band accomplishes this.  Looking for the “perfect” twisted band?  We love this platinum ring from the Refined Collection by Hearts On Fire.  It shows off The World’s Most Perfectly Cut Diamonds!

5. Cushion Cut Diamonds – Celebrities have been all about the cushion cut recently!  (Thank you, Kim & Kanye!)  A striking blend of the oval and princess cut shapes, the cushion cut is a rounded square design that has surged in popularity in recent years. Commonly seen in antique rings, the cut has a classic look that differentiates it from the standard round cut. The overall shape varies from a rounded square shape to a longer, more rectangular design.  One of our favorite and classic designs for a cushion cut diamonds is this platinum pave halo setting from Mark Patterson’s Promise Collection.

6. Mixed Metals – The mixed metal look is for the woman who loves the look of more than one color metal…or for the woman who can’t decide which metal she loves more!  Many women wear jewelry in all different colors, so this trend is perfect for them.  This adds a modern, unique touch to your jewelry!  The flowing lines of the Eriskay ring by MaeVona brilliantly mix platinum and 18K rose gold!

Which trend do you love the most?

NEW YORK (February 14, 2013) – Today, TheKnot.com, the #1 wedding planning destination and the authority on all things weddings, is making dreams come true! History will be made as first-ever live-streamed The Knot Dream Wedding takes place. This wedding is the first of its kind and millions of guests around the world are invited – RSVP by watching it all happen as it streams live on TheKnot.com, Facebook, Google+, The Knot YouTube channel, MSN Living and other media platforms.

The ultimate dream wedding, completely planned and paid for by experts at The Knot will take place at iconic Citi Pond at Bryant Park in New York City today, Valentine’s Day 2013. In a truly unforgettable moment, expert figure skater Sierra Dickens, The Knot Dream Wedding bride, will awe guests by taking advantage of the rink and skating her way down the aisle.

Since January, people across the country and around the world have voted on every single element of the wedding, from the dress to the ’do and everything in between.

“Andre and Sierra, our Dream Wedding winners, are an ideal and truly deserving couple – we could not be more thrilled to provide them with the wedding of their dreams,” said Carley Roney, cofounder and editor in chief of TheKnot.com. “At the cutting edge of technology, The Knot and all of our editors are honored to have created such a unique and memorable experience that can be shared and viewed nationwide.”

Every element (and the couple’s reaction!) was caught twice a week on The Knot LIVE, a live-streaming TV show. Celebrity wedding planner Amy Shey Jacobs and TheKnot.com editors asked viewers around the globe to decide on everything and here’s what won thanks to your vote:

  • Winning Couple: The first vote selected our dream wedding winners, Andre and Sierra, from a pool of five finalists.
  • Theme: The theme chosen is Modern Ice Castle, a vision created by Amy Shey Jacobs of Chandelier Events, with Lucite, ice and all things modern, this ultra-contemporary event will play up the glass-enclosed venue, anchored in a palette of silvers and whites.
  • Rings: Classic wedding bands were selected, Sierras with a platinum pave diamond band and Andre a titanium polished band, by Michael C. Fina.
  • Flowers:  The winning flowers were manzanita and crystal. Tall and exotic, these centerpieces add a modern touch to the branchy seasonal look by Rebecca Shepherd Floral Design. The bridal bouquet will be a cluster of shimmering brooches, while the bridesmaids carry bunches of gorgeous white orchids in different varieties.
  • The Dress: At The Knot, we’re all about tradition, and traditionally, the groom can’t see the bride in her dress before the big day! In keeping with this, tune in as we reveal the beautiful Kleinfeld Bridal dress live on TheKnot.com at 11am – right before Sierra walks down the aisle!
  • Hair & Makeup: The look will be that of winter’s goddess with a sideswept style that’s romantic, ethereal and strong by Blow. The makeup by M.A.C. creates a captivating and sultry eye using deep-blue tones layered with deep browns.
  • Bridesmaids Dresses: Sierra’s girls will don silk crinkle chiffon one-shoulder Amsale gowns in graphite, complete with trendy asymmetrical peplum and a sweetheart neckline. Sierra and the bridesmaids will also be wearing fabulous shoes by Nine West.
  • Men’s Formalwear: Andre and his groomsmen will wear contemporary black tuxedoes with a modern fit and narrow lapel by Vera Wang BLACK for Men’s Wearhouse.
  • Cake: Ana Parzych Cakes will create a sugary orchid masterpiece, complete with white-fondant cake tiers finished in textured, silver-painted fondant, decorated with handmade white sugar orchids and piped embroidery painted in silver.
  • Ceremony Entertainment: Élan Artists’ Djore A Cappella, the urban gospel chorus specializing in singing a capella will serenade Andre and Sierra as they walk down the aisle.
  • Honeymoon: Tokyo, Japan, was the selected location – the ultimate Asian honeymoon destination — full of culture, customs and cuisine, provided by Expedia. The couple would take this opportunity to volunteer, or “honeyteer,” their time to improve conditions abroad following the Tsunami. What better way to start a life together than by working for a charitable cause, and after winning the dream wedding Sierra and Andre would love the chance to give back in a meaningful way.

Dress Up in 2013

Michael C. Fina - Fashion Jewelry Trends 2013

Michael C. Fina is known for our bridal jewelry, but we also are experts on fashion jewelry.  While some jewelry pieces remain classics and will be forever in style, most trends change year to year.  We looked to celebrities and to the red carpet to see what’s going to be popular in 2013!

We sat down once again with Richard Wubnig, our manager and jewelry expert, to predict the top jewelry trends for 2013.

1. EmeraldsPantone has named Emerald Green ( PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald) their Color of the Year for 2013.  Pantone describes the color as a “lively, radiant, lush green” and we know that it will be the perfect addition to your wardrobe in 2013.  We think that not only emeralds, but rather all green gemstones and hues will be big this year.  Emeralds add just that right pop of color that can take a look from average to striking.  Some of our favorites are this classic emerald and diamond pendant from Michael C. Fina and these bold yellow gold emerald drop earrings from Penny Preville‘s Leaf Collection.

2. Colored Statement Pieces – Big, bold pieces are all over the red carpet.  You want to make a statement when you walk into a room and these pieces will certainly help you do it!  These pieces are also perfect for adding that fun pop of color when you are trying to take a more neutral outfit from the office to a dinner date.  We’re definitely going to see blues, greens, and pinks take over this year!  We suggest trying this striking 18K gold and sterling pendant from Tacori’s City Lights Collection or these elegant 18K yellow gold and moonstone cluster earrings from Temple St. Clair‘s Moonstone Collection.

3. Back in Black – Black stones are going to be big this year, especially black diamonds.  This twist on a classic started to become popular in 2012, but will take off in 2013.  They contrast white diamonds and this really makes the pieces of jewelry pop!  Black is extremely versatile, so women will love this trend because it can dress an outfit up or down depending on your mood.  For a girl’s night out, slip on this 18K and sterling black onyx cuff from Tacori’s 18K925 Collection.  Trying to impress your date?  These 18K white gold black diamond hoops from Penny Preville will do the trick!

4. Personalize It – Personalized jewelry is something you can love now, and it is something that you and your family can love for generations.  These personal pieces truly become your own and tell the story of your life.  Jewelry from Heather Moore is perfect for marking all the special occasions in your life – births of your children, your anniversary, etc.  You can customize every piece and add to it for years to come!  Looking for something more simple?  Initial pendants from KC Designs can be worn every day and even layered with other necklaces for a bigger look.

5. Stack ‘Em Up! – We love stacking all types of jewelry – bracelets, necklaces, rings – and we love seeing that this is becoming more and more popular with not only our customers, but our staff as well!  When stacking jewelry, you can change your look every day – add a piece, take one away, wear them in a different order.  This creates a look truly unique to each person and is perfect for creating looks on all different budgets.  We also suggest mixing in colors and different metals when creating your signature look.  Try layering these Temple St. Clair 18K yellow gold Olympian linked bangles with this 14K yellow gold pink sapphire beaded bracelet from Meira T. and this 18K and sterling London blue topaz bangle from Tacori’s 18K925 Collection for some seriously gorgeous arm candy.

How will you accessorize your life this year?

Getting Married in 2013

Top Wedding Band Trends 2013

Like engagement rings, we certainly know what we’re talking about when it comes to wedding bands.  Discerning New Yorkers no longer just want the simple platinum or gold band.  They want to be trendy.  They want something unique.  They want something to show their personality.  They realize they want the best because this is something they will be wearing for the rest of their lives.  That is why they come to Michael C. Fina.

Once again, we sat down with our manager and jewelry expert, Richard Wubnig.  He predicts the wedding band trends for 2013.  (Gentlemen, you’re included this time!)

1. Stackables (Her) – Stackable rings are fun.  They tend to be on the thinner side, but that can vary.  Women like to wear stackable bands because their husbands can continue to add to them year after year for babies, anniversaries, or just because!  You can get bands with different color metals or different stones, which truly creates a look uniquely your own.  By switching the order of your bands each day, you can change your style each day!  These gorgeous rings are great for stacking and are by Michael C. Fina, Mark Patterson, and Alex Sepkus.

2. Alternate Colors (Him) -  Men are moving away from the simple, plain bands of their fathers.  They want something a little more unique, a little more modern.  Rings with different colored metals, like carbon chrome or red gold, are becoming very popular with our male clients.  Sarah Graham and Furrer-Jacot create rings just for men who are looking for something a little different.

3. Wider Bands (Her) – It’s no secret that most women love diamonds.  And they want a lot of them.  Many women are now choosing wider bands with multiple rows of diamonds for their wedding band.  These women tend to choose to wear their engagement ring and wedding band separately, so they still want something substantial to wear on their left hand.  There is certainly nothing wrong with something this sparkly, like this ring from Hearts On Fire!

4. Organic-Colored Metals (Her) – Some people are just looking for something a little different.  They still like the classic looks of yellow or white gold, but don’t want something that looks like all of their friends’ rings.  Many women are turning to metals that don’t have a high polish, but rather choosing rings that look a little more organic and have more of a matte finish.  These yellow gold and white gold rings by Anne Sportun are perfect examples!

5. Multi-Shaped Diamond Bands (Her) – No one ever said you had to pick just one kind of diamond!  Different shapes add a whole new dimension to your engagement ring and your overall bridal look.  You’re supposed to smile when you look at your wedding band, so you should definitely have something fun and different!  These rings from A. Jaffe and Tacori would be gorgeous additions to any engagement ring!

Will you be wearing one of these trends when you get married in 2013?
